The lake sits 56 km north of Yinchuan in Pingluo County — about an hour by road — and only 20 minutes from Dawukou, Shizuishan's city seat.

By High-Speed Rail

Trains from Yinchuan reach Shahu station in about 20 minutes; the gate is a short taxi hop from the station.

By Coach from Yinchuan

Direct tourist coaches run from Yinchuan's north-gate tourist station, roughly ¥15–20 one way.

By Bus from Dawukou

Local buses from Dawukou (Shizuishan) pass the gate in around 20 minutes — the near end of the lake.

By Car

About one hour from Yinchuan (56 km) or 20 minutes from Dawukou; navigate to 'Sand Lake Scenic Area' — parking at the gate is ample.

On a Day Tour

Yinchuan day tours commonly bundle Sand Lake with the Helan Mountain carvings and Zhenbeipu film studio — the efficient no-driving option.

Getting Around

Boats are the in-park transport: big cruisers shuttle the south gate to the dune side, smaller craft hop to Bird Island, and the legs ride on the cruise ticket; on land it's boardwalks, dune paths and your own feet.
