Huangguoshu Waterfall

安顺市黄果树瀑布景区·AnShun, Guizhou·Southwest China

Three areas share one ticket, and the order you walk them decides your day — most travelers save the Great Waterfall for last. These notes blend official guidance with recent visitors' experience.

Suggested Itinerary

  1. One day — The Full Loop
Doupotang (~1 h) → Tianxing Bridge (2–3 h, lower section included) → Great Waterfall for afternoon light, the terraces and Water Curtain Cave; escalator up, shuttle back.
  2. Half day — The Express
Ride the first shuttle straight to the Great Waterfall at opening for the terraces and Water Curtain Cave, then stop at Doupotang on the way out — skip Tianxing Bridge or walk only its lower section.
  3. Two days — Anshun Combo
Day 1 the full Huangguoshu loop plus, in season, the night light show; Day 2 the Longgong caves — the same group's glittering 'Dragon Palace' — or Tianlong Tunpu, the 600-year-old garrison village.

What to See

1

The Great Waterfall

77.8 m by 101 m of thundering white water seen front-on from the lower deck, mist rising off Rhinoceros Pool in a column on sunny days.

2

Water Curtain Cave

The 134-metre walk-behind passage and its windows onto the falling sheet — expect spray, dripping rock and ear-to-ear grins.

3

The Viewing Terraces

Stacked decks along the gorge give side angles and a rising panorama as you climb — and the big escalator makes the top painless.

4

Tianxing Bridge

Stone growing on water — a bonsai garden of karst pinnacles, banyan roots and the 365 date-carved 'birthday stones' of the stepping trail.

5

Silver Chain Falls

Tianxing Bridge's lower-section masterpiece: water sliding over lotus-leaf rock in thousands of silver strands — many travelers' favourite fall of all.

6

Doupotang

The 105-metre curtain the 1986 Journey to the West made famous — pilgrim statues on a flat riverside boardwalk that is easiest on the legs.

Tips from Real Travelers

Food & Drink

Guo Juan (裹卷)

Anshun's cool street snack — translucent rice sheets rolled around shredded vegetables and pickles, dipped in a bright sauce.

Duo Duo Fen (夺夺粉)

A bubbling small-pot rice-noodle hotpot speared with bamboo skewers — Anshun's most sociable signature dish.

Bubu Sugar (波波糖)

Zhenning's melt-in-the-mouth sesame sugar crisp, flaked into a hundred layers — the sweet taste of the Huangguoshu region and a classic gift.

Anshun Grilled Fish (安顺烤鱼)

Whole fish grilled over charcoal and finished in a spicy, numbing broth — order it in Anshun's food streets after dark.
