Shanhaiguan Pass

Shanhaiguan is the easternmost district of Qinhuangdao, 300 km east of Beijing - a 2-hour high-speed rail hop, with the station walking distance from the walls.

High-speed rail

Beijing to Shanhaiguan station in about 2 hours; the First Pass gate is a 15-minute walk from the platform, and buses 25 and 33 run on to Old Dragon's Head.

Local bus

Buses 13, 25, 33, 302, 303 and the scenic special line stop at Tianxia Diyi Guan station.

Self-drive

G1 Beijing-Harbin expressway, Shanhaiguan exit; parking rings the old city.

Day tour

Qinhuangdao/Beidaihe-based day tours from about ¥169 covering the First Pass and Old Dragon's Head.

Flight

Qinhuangdao Beidaihe Airport (BPE) lies about 90 km west of the pass; many travellers instead fly to Beijing or Tianjin and continue by high-speed rail in around two hours.

Getting Around

Sights within the old city walk; Old Dragon's Head is 4 km south (bus or taxi) and Jiaoshan 3 km north; Yansai Lake beyond it by taxi or tour.
